Kera sit2sit™ Hoist

Seated transfers with one carer — no standing, no sitting balance, no slings.

The Kera sit2sit™ is a new category of hoist. It isn’t a standaid, and it isn’t a sling hoist — it transfers a person from one seat to another in a comfortable position resting on their chest, held securely by the upper body.
There is no standing strength, sitting balance or holding on required. A unique chestpad and backstrap combination supports the user through the upper body, so transfers that would otherwise need a sling hoist and two carers can be done by one person, in seconds.
The Kera was designed in consultation with physiotherapists and occupational therapists for comfort and safety. It is light and manoeuvrable, has a small footprint and no electrical parts, so it can be stored or transported easily at home or moved between rooms in a care setting.

Who it suits

Because the user is securely held by the upper body rather than under the arms or through a sling, the Kera suits people who can’t weight-bear at all: tetraplegia, double lower-limb amputation, stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, and progressive conditions where a standaid has stopped being safe. It is often the natural next step for a client who has outgrown a sit-to-stand aid but doesn’t yet need — or doesn’t want — a sling hoist.

One carer, in real rooms

Bed to chair, chair to toilet, wheelchair to shower chair. The small footprint and opening legs let the Kera work in bathrooms and bedrooms where a mobile hoist won’t fit, and clear access to clothing means one transfer instead of several for toileting and hygiene. The user can also be repositioned deep into a chair rather than left perched at the front.

Light, compact, no electrics

No battery to charge, no motor to service, nothing to fail mid-transfer. At 35 kg it can be moved between rooms, folded into a car boot, or stored in a cupboard — which is what makes it practical for home use and for respite, day centres and travel.

Choosing the right Kera

The Kera comes in four configurations, combining two bases and two handles:

  • Low or high base — matched to the seat heights the user transfers between.
  • Kera 80 or Kera 120 handle — the number is the safe working load in kilograms. The 80 suits lighter adults and children; the 120 covers the majority of adult users.

Accessories adapt the hoist to the individual: a thighstrap reduces the tension needed in the backstrap, footboxes and riser blocks help where the user’s feet lift or don’t reach the footplates, and chestpad options suit different body shapes.

Our assessors will script the right configuration with you. For the full options, see the Kera scripting guide or the Kera Learn resources from HT Systems.

Every figure is in imperial, converted from the metric original, and the results read oddly to a UK clinician:

  • Safe working load is given in stone. “12.6st” and “18.9st” are conversions of 80 kg and 120 kg. No UK hoist is specified in stone — LOLER records, NHS procurement and every competitor use kilograms. It also hides the naming logic: the 80 and the 120 are the SWL.
  • Unit weight is given in stone too. “5.5st” for the product itself actively undercuts the lightness claim — nobody weighs equipment in stone, and it reads as heavy.
  • Dimensions are in inches to one decimal place. “37.4 – 48.4″” is a converted 950–1230 mm. UK OTs measure doorways and wheelchair widths in millimetres. Molift’s own page on the same site is specified entirely in mm and kg.

The metric figures above are taken from HT Systems’ own specification where published, and back-converted from Newlyn’s inches where not — the seat heights in particular. Two numbers need reconciling before this is published: Newlyn’s “total length” range for the Kera 120 converts to 1520 mm against HT’s published 1580 mm, and HT’s site gives unit weight as both 35 kg and 80 lb, which don’t agree. Send the current HT spec sheet with the copy so Newlyn types from one source.

Standards and servicing
The Kera sit2sit™ has been independently tested to the hoist standard ISO 10535 and is a Class I medical device. Like all lifting equipment used to lift people, it must be thoroughly examined every six months under LOLER. Newlyn Healthcare provides servicing and thorough examination for the full range.
